Wondering and pondering about the extraordinarily wide array of human races and phenotypes that currently inhabit Mother Earth, we ought to ask ourselves: why all the world`s primates constitute by far the most diverse, species-rich and colourful Order in the Class Mammalia? Do diversity, metachromism and metachromic processes in primates directly relate to sexual selection the way Darwin in his Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection (1859) suggested? Or is it rather related to the generally complex, hierarchical social structure and male territoriality in primates? If not sexual selection, what would be the principal factor(s) in social behaviour to be held responsible for evolutionary processes in metachromism, speciation, radiation, niche separation, and phylogeography in primates – the order to which we, Homo sapiens, also belong?
