Fruits of all known Guianan plants, +/- 100   families, 546 genera, 2000+ species, 233 color   photos, 405 color illustrations, 2655 b/w  illustrations.

Here is presented the first illustrated field guide to about all woody plants known from the Amazon. The work is divided over nine volumes. This volume (Vol. I) focuses on the fruits of woody plants known at least from the Guianas and the larger Guayanan Shield. It offers 208 plates full of line drawings and aquarelle paintings of ca. 2,000 species of fruit. Volumes II – IX describe and depict botanical and ecological field characters of about all woody plants (above 1 m in height) as known from the larger Amazon. They cover a total of 109 families, 1,000 genera and over 5,000 species, each volume treating a number of families in alphabetical order. This ‘Flora Amazonica’ is the result of Marc van Roosmalen’s lifetime research on plant-animal relations and coevolution in the tropical rainforests of the Amazon. It is built upon his three earlier works: ‘Het Surinaams Vruchtenboek’ (1977); ‘Fruits of the Guianan Flora’ (1985); and ‘Wild Fruits from the Amazon’ (www.amazon.com, 2014-18). From 1986 on, Marc has worked on his magnum opus, along with other biodiversity and conservation projects in the Amazon. He is immensely grateful to all botanists and field explorers, past and present, that collected and named the myriad of plants he had to examine in order to compile this pictorial field guide. Special thanks go to www.google.com for allowing access to some of the best herbariums and botanical gardens in the world.
